In terms of fencing, having looked on your website at your fencing gallery, I prefer the look of the 3rd one along rather than the first one with the cement posts. The gallery may change so I have included a screen shot of the one I like.

2 We found your details on the website and looked at your fencing gallery, we are the main contractors on the above contract for a Burnley Fencing project and require a quotation for new fencing (2 areas). A photo of the existing is attached. Is it possible to visit site to enable you to prepare a quotation?

House 1*: Replace 8m length (currently closeboard) rear fence and 3m side fence with 1.8m tanalised brown UC3 feather edge (not panels) secured by 3 arris rails and 6 morticed concrete posts (2 corner, 4 intermediate note: existing end post behind garage can be retained) and 2 tanalised UC4 wood posts. Install one approx. 2.5ft wide feather edge Z gate. 2m total height including 6 inch smooth concrete gravel boards.  Include (pressure treated) centre stump per section to support bottom arris rail (tends to sag).

House 2*: Replace 8m length rear fence (currently concrete panels) and 6.5m side fence (currently closeboard) with 1.8m tanalised brown UC3 feather edge (not panels) secured by 3 arris rails and 6 morticed concrete posts (1 corner, 6 intermediate/end). Include (pressure treated) centre stump per section under bottom arris rail.

  1. Advice needed about post(s) required where 3 fences converge at the middle of the rear boundary.

Material specification:

  • Tanalised pressure treated timber: Feather Edge 1.8m/6ft (width 125mm – 150mm; 13mm thick boards tapering to 6mm) impregnated with Tanalith preservative treatment (preferably Tanalith Extra for water repellence) and Tanatone, brown colourant additive. Must be supplied with evidence of Use Class 3 (UC4 for posts) BS EN335:1 and minimum 15 year service life.
  • Stainless steel nails, screws, metal 2 pin cleats, galvanised door fittings and all fixtures to have a comparable service life. All end grain to be sealed.
  • 75m/9ft high 100 x 100mm steel reinforced concrete morticed post (pointed top) for 3 morticed arris rails (pressure treated brown, pre scarfed/shaped ends). For a 2 metre high fence. 75cm to be buried underground with at least 2 bags post mix concrete (20kg) per hole for posts and 3 bags for corner posts. Ensure 4/5 cleat holes present at the bottom for positioning options and lifting gravel board slightly off the ground.
  • Track framework alignment with a spirit level. Framework goes up first, post – rail – post – rail (not all posts in first).
  • Timber gate x1 to have Z structure, 3 or 4 hinges and a locking mechanism.
  • Alternate thick edges of featheredge so it faces in opposite directions.
  • Fair side towards the garden and house.

  • Width of feather board between posts not to exceed 8ft (240cm) (approx. 24x 125mm or 19x 150mm boards). 25mm board overlap. Along the rear of House 1, this should allow 3x 8ft sections and space for a narrow gate, needing to be attached to wooden posts either side or wooden frame. 2m height minimum all round, no capping.  Lift gravel boards off the ground by a few centimetres (not to sit on the ground).Do you have anything similar in your fencing gallery or projects section you can direct us to?
