Project Overview

It was our pleasure to be contracted to transform this magnificent driveway of an executive house in Bolton. We enjoyed the transformation, and the client is overjoyed with their new driveway. The Homeowners wanted a driveway that was durable and sleek, while also complementing their stunning executive home. They originally opted for a resin-bound driveway, but after more discussion and thought, they decided to opt for tarmac instead of resin, we hope you agree that the final result looks beautiful and complements the house.

Surface Removal & Edge Preparation

Before we began the project, we marked out the driveway, making sure we followed the agreed layout and shape. We began the project by removing the old resin surface from the existing driveway. Once fully cleared, we carefully cut around all the perimeter edges. This step ensures that the new tarmac surface will bond effectively with the existing foundation, creating a seamless and long-lasting finish.

Base Reinforcement

After the surface was cleared, we added fresh MOT type 1 hardcore to the areas that had been cut out, reinforcing the base where necessary. Once this hardcore was compacted and levelled using a vibrating roller, we applied a liquid emulsion bonding coat across the entire area. This specialist bonding agent helps the new tarmac adhere securely to the base below.

Tarmac Installation

We ensured precision when working on the curves and straight edges, to help define and shape the driveway. Then we turned our focus on the tarmac installation. Next, we laid approximately 2 inches of consolidated tarmac using a 6mm stone size as the wearing course. The surface was machine rolled using a heavy-duty vibrating roller, producing a sleek, even, and tightly compacted finish with a clean and professional look.

Finishing Touches

While the tarmac was cooling, final checks were made on all the joints, edges and drainage systems. Any excess materials and debris were removed, and the site was swept and hosed down to leave a pristine finish.

The Final Result

The finished driveway significantly boosted the kerb appeal of the property. The striking contrast of the dark tarmac and the bright granite edging gives the property a modern and polished look. It doesn’t only look fantastic but is also built to withstand the test of time.
