Project Overview
We recently transformed this tired, uneven driveway in Burnley into a modern and durable block paved surface, enhancing both the look and functionality of the property, giving the homeowners a clean, practical and stylish entrance to their home.
Initial Condition
The original driveway consisted of large, uneven and discoloured concrete slabs, that had become cracked, stained and sunken over time. They posed a trip hazard and made the driveway look uninviting. The homeowners were keen to modernise the space while also improving access and drainage.

Ground Preparation
We began by carefully lifting the old slabs and excavating the whole area to the appropriate depth. Proper preparation is crucial in ensuring the longevity of a new surface, particularly with block paving. A compacted Type 1 MOT hardcore base was then installed to create a strong foundation, followed by a layer of sharp sand, which was precisely leveled to allow for accurate block placement.
Laying the Block Paving
Charcoal blocks were laid in a classic herringbone pattern, chosen for both visual impact and structural strength under vehicle use, preventing future movement. Around the edges a contrasting border was added using light grey and buff blocks. At the driveway entrance, a striking chevron detail was added for uniqueness.
The Final Result
The finished driveway is a perfect combination of durability and design. It not only improves daily access for the homeowners but significantly boosts the overall look of the property. The crisp lines, detailed edging and smooth surface make this block paved driveway a real standout on the street.
