One of the attractive aspects of landscaping is that no two projects are ever alike. Some are naturally more challenging than others. While many contractors shy away from such scenarios, the team at Lakestone Paving embraces this level of diversity. After all, variety is indeed the spice of life. A recent undertaking in Rossendale clearly illustrates why we are a cut above the rest in terms of providing innovative solutions at the appropriate times. What did this project entail and how were we able to accomplish the seemingly impossible?
Preparation and Planning
Although each project will differ, one aspect of our strategy remains the same. The first step is to provide the customer with an in-depth consultation. This allows us to thoroughly appreciate what they are trying to achieve while providing them with time to ask any additional questions.
For this project, it was eventually decided that three elements were required in order to tie the entire garden together:
- A slab patio
- Decking
- Artificial grass
Although natural grass and some paving slabs were already in place, these elements had certainly seen better days. Simply stated, the garden needed what can only be called a full facelift in order to display its true beauty.
It should therefore come as no great surprise that a significant amount of time was devoted to basic preparatory steps. This included removing old materials (such as debris and the existing patio) as well as levelling the surface. A level surface helps to avert potential drainage problems; particularly when dealing with low-lying areas. Manual labour and mechanised equipment were both employed during the initial stages of preparation.
Change is a Good Thing
Our team was then able to jump into the “meat” of the project after they completed the preparatory steps. This involved what can be termed a three-pronged approach. Some individuals focused upon constructing a frame for the decking. Others measured and cut the block paving slabs while additional workers obtained the artificial turf. This saved time as well as money; both very understandable concerns for any client. What were the main benefits of each of these elements?
We chose to use artificial turf thanks to its low-maintenance qualities. Furthermore, this material is available in a variety of tones and the colours will not fade over time.
Of course, natural wood decking is able to provide any garden with a bespoke organic appeal. Decks also offer residents a space to sit back and relax during the more pleasant times of the year.
Block paving slabs are highly versatile in terms of how they can be laid in place. They are environmentally friendly options, they require little maintenance, and they help to enhance the visual appearance of any home.
From Bland to Beautiful
All of the aspects outlined above worked in synergy to create a truly one-of-a-kind garden. Not only did the turf provide a verdant green touch, but the bold nature of the paving slabs was perfectly offset by the warmer tones associated with the natural wood deck.
